T O P I C R E V I E WMoonbase AlphanISS Expedition 60 mission patchTomNice!! No names?Robert PearlmanOfficially, space station partners have only announced crew members through Expedition 59 to date. (There are crew assignments for Expedition 60 online, but they are subject to change.)As an aside, Expedition 60 is expected to overlap the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 in July 2019, hence the inclusion of the eagle. I wonder though, what happens if commercial crew and Soyuz schedules slip the expedition? I suppose all of 2019 can be considered the anniversary year...dcfowler1It is also currently scheduled to host two Soyuz crews and both USCV-1 and USCV-2. Commercial crew delays are probable, so there is likely to be a lot of turbulence in this crew.pargooThis is the final approved art? Could do with a bit of colour, as well as names.dcfowler1The above-mentioned turbulence is likely one reason why there are no names. Another reason: If the two USCV launches happen as scheduled (unlikely, I know), there could be as many as 14 astronauts in various stages of this expedition.thisismillsA handful of the earlier ISS crew patches were without astronaut names, my personal favorite being Expedition 23. After seeing this Expedition 60 artwork, I'm actually hoping that may be the trend will come back, even if only for a couple of missions here and there. This art is beautiful and speaks to me with limited used of color and bold design elements. Secretly hoping that there ends up being too many astronauts to make adding names impractical... but maybe that's just me.KSCartistI like this simplicity of the design and understand the rationale behind no names. But I would have used the Constellation "Aquila" to represent Eagle landing on the moon or ghost stitched the Eagle from the 11 patch. This has too many stars.Do we know who the artists are?lucspaceIt seems AB Emblem is introducing the hybrid print/embroidery type for official NASA patches. Moonbase AlphanThe Land's End simplified embroidery, showing modified elements of the patch:justin13I just received one of the patches from Joe at Skyforce — in addition to being a print/embroidery hybrid (not thrilled with that) there's no AB production label on the back of the patch. Kevin T. RandallThe AB Emblem Expedition 60 patch has the patch design number 290700. But none of these ISS-60 hybrid patches has been seen with an embedded label on them, or on the cellophane packet they come in (yet).Update on 17th October; Two cellophane packets with stickers on them have been found. They read; 290700 "Made In USA" 7/18 20. (None of the patches within them had embedded labels on).Harald KraenzelFrom AB Emblem I learned: This process is known as a photo combo emblem, which is a blend of both a photo process and the standard embroidery method. ... The reason this design was made in the photo combo method is due to the constellation detail in the background, this could have never been achieved using traditional embroidery.Kevin T. RandallThe first of these Expedition 60 patches with embedded labels on the backs have been seen with the following details:290700 A-B Emblem Made In China 10/1840290700 A-B Emblem Made In China 12/1840LiemboRecently, A-B Emblem has been selling an ISS-60 version on their "lost and found" page that states, "The blue thread used in the number 60 is the wrong shade of blue." I received one and in a side by side scan with an example I received from Skyforce Patches in September 2018, the patch is virtually identical. I am not sure if the color they are comparing to is not yet released or what, but I can't see any difference at all. Though this scan shows a slight difference in the background, that, too, is indistinguishable to the eye in natural and artificial light. So either Skyforce received their allocation from the same run or the correct color hasn't been made available yet? Kevin T. RandallAll the versions of the Expedition 60 patches I have all have the same colour, what I would call "navy blue" 60's infills. That includes patches manufactured in Weaverville with packet stickers "290700 Made In USA 7/18 20" and those manufactured in China with date codes 10/1840 and 12/1840.Again it is a great pity a large number of the first production runs of these Expedition 60 patches don't have any embedded labels on them, or have cellophane packet stickers. I do have some of the "error lighter colour blue" patches coming in from AB Emblem.Update: The wrong lighter blue colour error patches are now all sold out at AB Emblem.I received mine and they are quite noticeable against the black of the space behind. I didn't buy any from Skyforce so can't do a side by side comparison with one of his patches.skyguard23I definitely see a difference in the blue thread that was used in the mission number: The upper patch is the "regular" version I received from Joe in October 2018. The lower patch is the error patch directly from AB.thisismillsStumbled across this page today on the AB Emblems website, which seems to confirm the wrong shade of blue was used. Expedition 60 (Mfg.
